How Will You Measure Your Life

This week in my entrepreneurial journey we studied “How Will You Measure Your Life”.  As I study the material associated with this course, I find myself a little surprised each week with the quality and relevance of all of it.  Further I find myself identifying ideas that open my mind to new ways of thinking, and I am absolutely loving it!  I feel this class was put together just for me.

This week, I finished a book called Launching Leaders by Steven A Hitz.  It contains principles and formulas for success in life and in a way that is perfectly aligned with my values.  I have ready many good business books in the past, but rarely do they align to what I am trying to achieve personally.  And to be honest, most of the books I have read in the past have simply stirred a desire to improve behavior with the end goal to make more money.

Over the last year, I have struggled through a prompting to stay with the company I work for a while longer, a job that feels like a dead end.  Through this period I have been searching for meaning in other aspects of my life.  That in and of itself has been a tremendous blessing.  Coupling that with the lessons I am learning in class and the guidance I receive from the Spirt, I feel perhaps that I understand how to align the various aspects of my life in a higher way.  A pathway more aligned with the purposes of God.  What’s more, as I identify correct principles and start to align all aspects of my life, I feel more peace than I ever remember feeling.  It’s hard to put to words, but I know I am where I need to be working though concepts I need to learn.

This change from focusing on money or prosperity to living a life congruent with my values regardless of the consequences brings with it a sense of freedom.  Free to think, explore and ultimately act in a way I feel inspired or motivated to do.

So, what am I motivated to do?  I desire to live in a way that brings me closer to Jesus Christ.  To love and care for my family and to take time to serve and lift others.  To do all I can to learn to live a Celestial life.

So what is entrepreneurial about any of this?  I know that I ultimately want to start a business of my own, but motivated by very different reasons than I did a year ago.  I have come to believe that if I choose to align fully with what God wants, there will naturally be an abundance of opportunity, challenges and learning.  I love where this class is leading my thinking and can’t wait to see what concepts come next.
